**Azarias Friton, [O.P.](/source/Order_of_Preachers)** (1563 – 7 January, 1607) was a Roman Catholic prelate who served as [Archbishop of Nakhchivan](/source/Archbishop_of_Nakhchivan) (1604–1607).[1][2][3]

## Biography

Azarias Friton was born in 1563 and appointed a priest in the [Order of Preachers](/source/Order_of_Preachers).[1] On 24 March 1604, he was appointed during the papacy of [Pope Clement VIII](/source/Pope_Clement_VIII) as [Archbishop of Nakhchivan](/source/Archbishop_of_Nakhchivan)[1] as successor to his uncle [Nicholas Friton](/source/Nicholas_Friton). On 9 May 1604, he was consecrated bishop by [Girolamo Bernerio](/source/Girolamo_Bernerio), [Cardinal-Bishop](/source/Cardinal-Bishop) of *Albano*, with [Agostino Quinzio](/source/Agostino_Quinzio), [Bishop of Korčula](/source/Bishop_of_Kor%C4%8Dula), and [Leonard Abel](/source/Leonard_Abel), [Titular Bishop](/source/Titular_Bishop) of *Sidon*, serving as co-consecrators.[1] He served as Archbishop of Nakhchivan until his death on 7 January 1607[1] in [Rome](/source/Rome). His current resting place is [San Nicola da Tolentino agli Orti Sallustiani](/source/San_Nicola_da_Tolentino_agli_Orti_Sallustiani).[4]
