**Azar** ([Persian](/source/Persian_language): آذر, Persian pronunciation: [\[ɒːˈzæɾ\]](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA/Persian)[1]) is the ninth month of the [Solar Hijri calendar](/source/Solar_Hijri_calendar), the official calendar of [Iran](/source/Iran) and [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan).[1] Azar has thirty days.[1] It begins in November and ends in December by the [Gregorian calendar](/source/Gregorian_calendar)[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]. Azar corresponds to the Tropical Astrological month of [Sagittarius](/source/Sagittarius_(astrology)).

Azar is the third month of autumn, and is followed by [Dey](/source/Dey_(month)).[1]

The name is derived from [Atar](/source/Atar), the [Zoroastrian](/source/Zoroastrianism) concept of [holy fire](/source/Fire_worship).
