It has been performed under many different names. ==Performance history and versions== The first version, in Hungarian, with a [libretto](/source/libretto) by Károly von Bakonyi, premiered at the [Vígszínház](/source/V%C3%ADgsz%C3%ADnh%C3%A1z), Budapest, on 16 March 1910. The second, German version, ''{{Lang|de|Der gute Kamerad}}'' (The good comrade), with a libretto revised by [Viktor Léon](/source/Viktor_L%C3%A9on), premiered at the [Bürgertheater](/source/B%C3%BCrgertheater), Vienna, on 10 October 1911. The location of the operetta was changed from Hungary to Austria. The main roles were sung by {{Ill|Betty Fischer|de}}, [Louise Kartousch](/source/Louise_Kartousch), [Hubert Marischka](/source/Hubert_Marischka) and {{Ill|Ernst Tautenhayn|de}}. The third, more nationalistic, version, ''{{Lang|de|Gold gab ich für Eisen}}'' (''I Gave Gold for Iron'') was premiered at the [Theater an der Wien](/source/Theater_an_der_Wien) on 16 October 1914.
