# Aylesford Stream

The **Aylesford Stream** is a 5.4 kilometre[1] long [tributary](/source/Tributary) of the [East Stour](/source/East_Stour,_Kent), itself a tributary of the [Great Stour](/source/River_Stour,_Kent) in [Kent](/source/Kent). The [stream](/source/Stream)'s source is north of the M20, between [Wye with Hinxhill](/source/Wye_with_Hinxhill) and [West Brabourne](/source/West_Brabourne), and runs through [Willesborough](/source/Willesborough) and then between Newtown and South Willesborough to join the East Stour just west of [Ashford Designer Outlet](/source/Ashford_Designer_Outlet).[1]

The area along the stream forms part of a [Local Nature Reserve](/source/Local_Nature_Reserve), the [Ashford Green Corridor](/source/Ashford_Green_Corridor), with pollarded willows adjacent to *Bentley Road* in Willesborough. Part of the area is designated as the [South Willesborough Dykes](/source/Willesborough_Dykes#South_Willesborough_Dykes), a [Site of Nature Conservation Interest](/source/Site_of_Nature_Conservation_Interest) (SNCI). The [dykes](/source/Dyke_(river)) continue on the east side of the [East Stour](/source/East_Stour,_Kent) and amongst the residential areas.

When [High Speed 1](/source/High_Speed_1) was built through Ashford, the stream was diverted to run alongside the railway line.[2]
