American film producer

**Aya Tanimura** is an Australian-Japanese writer and director, based in [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles), [California](/source/California).[1]

## Career

### Short films

Her directorial credits include *Mobius* (2011), *U-2074* (2010), and *Mrs. Kim*, (2010)[2] which was a finalist in [Los Angeles Magazine](/source/Los_Angeles_Magazine)'s Get L.A. short film competition.[3] Also produced in 2010, Tanimura's film *Sweet-As* won the People's Choice award and was a finalist for [Tourism New Zealand](/source/Tourism_New_Zealand)'s '100% Pure New Zealand Presents Your Big Break' short film competition.[4] In 2013, Tanimura produced *Kill of the Night* under [Visual Communications](/source/Visual_Communications)' Armed With a Camera fellowship which premiered at the [Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival](/source/Los_Angeles_Asian_Pacific_Film_Festival)[5] and later screened at the Lady Filmmakers Film Festival.[6]

### Music videos

In 2013, Tanimura directed lyric videos for [Katy Perry](/source/Katy_Perry)'s songs "[Roar](/source/Roar_(song))"[7] and "[Unconditionally](/source/Unconditionally)".[8]

In 2014, she directed Perry's lyric video for "[Birthday](/source/Birthday_(Katy_Perry_song))"[9] which was one of the 2014 MTV VMA nominees for "Best Lyric Video."[10]

In 2016 she directed [Alessia Cara](/source/Alessia_Cara)'s music video for "[How Far I'll Go](/source/How_Far_I'll_Go)".

In 2017, she directed Perry's lyric video for "[Chained to the Rhythm](/source/Chained_to_the_Rhythm)".[11]

In 2021, she directed [One Direction](/source/One_Direction) member [Liam Payne](/source/Liam_Payne)'s music video for the *[Ron's Gone Wrong](/source/Ron's_Gone_Wrong)* song "[Sunshine](/source/Sunshine_(Liam_Payne_song))".
