She is a two-time [World Indoor Championship](/source/World_Athletics_Indoor_Championships) silver medallist from [2014](/source/2014_IAAF_World_Indoor_Championships) and [2022](/source/2022_World_Athletics_Indoor_Championships).

==Career==
Axumawit Embaye made her first major appearances in 2012. She was runner-up in the 800&nbsp;m at the Ethiopian junior championships and ended up seventh at the [2012 World Junior Championships in Athletics](/source/2012_World_Junior_Championships_in_Athletics), recording a personal best of 4:12.92 minutes. She switched to the [1500 metres](/source/1500_metres) for the 2013 season and performed well on the European circuit. She ran a best of 4:09.11 minutes at the [XL Galan](/source/XL_Galan) indoors to place second and had a string of runner-up placings outdoors at the [Bislett Games](/source/Bislett_Games), [Folksam Grand Prix](/source/Folksam_Grand_Prix) and the [KBC Night of Athletics](/source/KBC_Night_of_Athletics) (she set a personal best of 4:05.16 minutes at the latter event).<ref name=Tilas>[http://www.tilastopaja.org/db/atw.php?ID=121094&Season=2013&Odd=0 Axumawit Embaye]. She placed fourth in her specialist event at the [2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships](/source/2016_IAAF_World_Indoor_Championships) held in [Portland, Oregon](/source/Portland%2C_Oregon). [Sifan Hassan](/source/Sifan_Hassan) was the winner while [Dawit Seyaum](/source/Dawit_Seyaum) and [Gudaf Tsegay](/source/Gudaf_Tsegay) finished second and third, respectively.

At the [2019 World Championships](/source/2019_World_Championships_in_Athletics) in [Doha](/source/Doha), Axumawit was eliminated in the heats of the women's [1500m event](/source/2019_World_Championships_in_Athletics_%E2%80%93_Women's_1500_metres).

In 2022, Axumawit repeated her achievement from 2014 winning 1500m silver at the [World Indoor Championships](/source/2022_World_Athletics_Indoor_Championships) in [Belgrade](/source/Belgrade), clocking 4:02.29.
