# Australotymnes

***Australotymnes*** is a genus of [leaf beetles](/source/Leaf_beetle) in the subfamily [Eumolpinae](/source/Eumolpinae). The genus contains only one species, ***Australotymnes jipijapa***, found in [dry forest](/source/Dry_forest) in western [Ecuador](/source/Ecuador). Adults of the species were collected from vegetation during the rainy season.[1]

The generic name is a combination of *Australo*, from the [Latin](/source/Latin) word *australis* (meaning "south"), and *tymnes*, from the genus *[Tymnes](/source/Tymnes)* (which *Australotymnes* strongly resembles). The species is named after [Jipijapa](/source/Jipijapa,_Ecuador) in the [Manabí Province](/source/Manab%C3%AD_Province) of Ecuador, the nearest town to where the [holotype](/source/Holotype) of the species was found.[1]
