**Austin A. Lane** is an American college official and chancellor of [Southern Illinois University Carbondale](/source/Southern_Illinois_University_Carbondale).

## Early life and education

Lane was born in New Jersey and graduated from [Hackensack High School](/source/Hackensack_High_School). He received a BA from [Langston University](/source/Langston_University), an MA from the [University of Oklahoma](/source/University_of_Oklahoma), and an [Ed. D.](/source/Doctor_of_Education) from the [University of Alabama](/source/University_of_Alabama).

## Career

Lane was executive vice chancellor of [Lone Star College](/source/Lone_Star_College) in 2015.[1] In 2016, Lane became president of [Texas Southern University](/source/Texas_Southern_University) (TSU), succeeding John M. Rudley.[1][2] He departed in 2020 after controversy over an admissions scandal at its law school and questions over entertainment spending from a foundation connected to the university.[3][2] In 2020 he was appointed chancellor of Southern Illinois University Carbondale.[4]
