# Auning

**Auning** is a minor town on the main road between [Randers](/source/Randers) and [Grenå](/source/Gren%C3%A5), with a population of 3,330 (1 January 2025).[2] It is located in [Region Midtjylland](/source/Region_Midtjylland) and in [Norddjurs Municipality](/source/Norddjurs_Municipality). It used to be one of the two major towns in the abolished [Sønderhald Municipality](/source/S%C3%B8nderhald_Municipality), the other being [Assentoft](/source/Assentoft) which now belongs to [Randers Municipality](/source/Randers_Municipality).
