Auktsyon) is a Russian [alternative rock](/source/alternative_rock) band from [Saint Petersburg](/source/Saint_Petersburg). The band was founded by {{ill|Leonid Fyodorov (musician)|lt=Leonid Fyodorov|ru|Фёдоров, Леонид Валентинович}} at the [Polytechnic Institute of Leningrad](/source/Saint_Petersburg_Polytechnical_University).{{cite book|last=Beumers |first=Birgit |title=Pop Culture Russia! |year=2005 |place=Santa Barbara |publisher=ABC-CLIO |isbn=1-85109-459-8}} Though they originally played [post-punk](/source/post-punk) and [new wave](/source/New_wave_music), the group came to be influenced by European and Central Asian folk music, avant-garde jazz, the poetry of Russian futurist [Velimir Khlebnikov](/source/Velimir_Khlebnikov), and aspects of Russian high culture and literature. Auktyon was particularly popular from 1987 through 1995, but became less active in the late 1990s when Fyodorov began to produce records for [Leningrad](/source/Leningrad_(band)). The group continues to play together and to release new albums. They toured the [United States](/source/United_States) in 2006Mitter, Siddhartha (24 March 2006).
