**Agustín Díaz** (born June 6, 1954), known as **Augie Diaz**, is an American [sailor](/source/Sailing_(sport)) and world-class competitor in the [Snipe](/source/Snipe_(dinghy)), [Star](/source/Star_(sailboat)) and [Laser](/source/Laser_(dinghy)) classes.

He is the son of Gonzalo Diaz, who sailed for [Cuba](/source/Cuba) at the [1959 Pan American Games](/source/1959_Pan_American_Games).[1]

He began sailing [Optimists](/source/Optimist_(dinghy)) at the age of eight in [Clearwater, Florida](/source/Clearwater%2C_Florida). In 1973, he won the IYRU Single-handed dinghy World Youth title in the [Laser](/source/Laser_(dinghy)) class. After graduating from [Christopher Columbus High School (Miami)](/source/Christopher_Columbus_High_School_(Miami)) in 1972, Diaz sailed for [Tulane University](/source/Tulane_University), where he studied [Mechanical engineering](/source/Mechanical_engineering). He was All American on the [Tulane Green Wave](/source/Tulane_Green_Wave) sailing team in 1973, 1974 and 1975, won the [ICSA Coed Dinghy National Championship](/source/ICSA_Coed_Dinghy_National_Championship) in 1973 and the [ICSA Men's Singlehanded National Championship](/source/ICSA_Men's_Singlehanded_National_Championship) in 1974, leading the team to win the [Leonard M. Fowle Trophy](/source/Leonard_M._Fowle_Trophy) in 1974. That same year he was elected [ICSA College Sailor of the Year](/source/ICSA_College_Sailor_of_the_Year).

He received the [US Sailor of the Year Award](/source/US_Sailor_of_the_Year_Awards) in 2003, and was inducted in the [National Sailing Hall of Fame](/source/National_Sailing_Hall_of_Fame) in 2021.[2]

He has been [Snipe world champion](/source/Commodore_Hub_E._Isaacks_and_O'Leary_Trophies) in 2003 and 2005,[3] and [Star world champion](/source/Star_World_Championships) in 2016.[4]

In the Snipe class, he was also [world masters champion](/source/Id_Crook_Memorial_Trophy) in 2002, 2004, 2006 y 2012;[5] [Western Hemisphere & Orient champion](/source/Snipe_Western_Hemisphere_%26_Orient_Championship) in 1972, 2002 and 2021; [North American champion](/source/Snipe_North_American_Championship) in 1974, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2013; and [U.S. National champion](/source/United_States_Snipe_National_Championship) in 1974, 1980, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2025.
