David made his full international debut for the [Trinidad and Tobago national team](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team) on 29 February 2012 against [Antigua and Barbuda](/source/Antigua_and_Barbuda_national_football_team) at the age of 21.[26] However, following the *Soca Warriors'* elimination, at the hands of [Guyana](/source/Guyana_national_football_team), from [qualification](/source/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_(CONCACAF)) attempt for the [2014 FIFA World Cup](/source/2014_FIFA_World_Cup), David accepted an invitation to represent his native [Guyana](/source/Guyana). In May 2012, David made his debut for the *Golden Jaguars* in a pair of [friendlies](/source/Exhibition_game#Association_football) against [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica_national_football_team) and [Panama](/source/Panama_national_football_team). The following month, Aubrey did not feature for Guyana in the team's two losses against [Mexico](/source/Mexico_national_football_team) and [Costa Rica](/source/Costa_Rica_national_football_team) during the [third round](/source/2014_FIFA_World_Cup_qualification_%E2%80%93_CONCACAF_third_round) of qualification. As a result, David decided to make a one-time international switch back to [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team) in November 2012.[27]

#### 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup

On 16 November 2012, David scored his first international goal in his return debut for the *Soca Warriors* in a 3–0 win against [Suriname](/source/Suriname_national_football_team).[27] Aubrey went on to receive five international [caps](/source/Cap_(sport)) to lead the national team through [qualification](/source/2012_Caribbean_Cup_qualification) and a runners-up finish in the [2012 Caribbean Cup](/source/2012_Caribbean_Cup) to qualify for the country's first [CONCACAF Gold Cup](/source/CONCACAF_Gold_Cup) in six years. In the build-up to the Gold Cup, David appeared as a [defender](/source/Defender_(association_football)) in a pair of friendlies against [Peru](/source/Peru_national_football_team) in February and March 2013. He also started in a 1–0 loss to [Estonia](/source/Estonia_national_football_team) on 7 June during the national team's first visit to European soil since the [2006 FIFA World Cup](/source/2006_FIFA_World_Cup) in Germany.[28] After the Gold Cup draw, Trinidad and Tobago entered Group B along with [El Salvador](/source/El_Salvador_national_football_team), [Haiti](/source/Haiti_national_football_team), and [Honduras](/source/Honduras_national_football_team). Based on his performance in the previous friendlies, Aubrey was named in the final squad for the [2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup](/source/2013_CONCACAF_Gold_Cup) on 28 July.[29]

Although David did not appear in the *Soca Warriors'* first group match against El Salvador, he came on as an early second-half substitute for injured [Joevin Jones](/source/Joevin_Jones) at [left-back](/source/Defender_(association_football)#Wing-back) during the team's second match against [Haiti](/source/Haiti_national_football_team).[6] In the final group match between the *Warriors* and [Honduras](/source/Honduras_national_football_team), David again replaced Jones as a late substitute to secure a 2–0 win and help Trinidad and Tobago advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since [2000](/source/2000_CONCACAF_Gold_Cup).[30] In the quarterfinals against [Mexico](/source/Mexico_national_football_team), David made his first start of the tournament after [Joevin Jones](/source/Joevin_Jones) suffered from a [hamstring](/source/Hamstring) injury prior to the match.[31]

**Post Gold Cup friendlies**

Two months after the [2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup](/source/2013_CONCACAF_Gold_Cup), [Trinidad and Tobago](/source/Trinidad_and_Tobago_national_football_team) accepted an invitation to compete in the [2013 OSN Cup](/source/2013_OSN_Cup) in [Saudi Arabia](/source/Saudi_Arabia). David started in defence for the *Soca Warriors* during their semifinal match against [United Arab Emirates](/source/United_Arab_Emirates_national_football_team). However, after Trinidad and Tobago conceded their third goal, Aubrey was substituted for [Sheldon Bateau](/source/Sheldon_Bateau) in the 55th minute.[32] David was left off the roster, in favor of Bateau, for a friendly match against [New Zealand](/source/New_Zealand_men's_national_football_team) in October 2013. David returned to the national team the following month and made consecutive starts during a pair of matches against [Caribbean](/source/Caribbean) rivals [Jamaica](/source/Jamaica).[33][34]
