'''Aubin vert''' is a white [French wine](/source/French_wine) [grape variety](/source/grape_variety) that is grown in the [Lorraine](/source/Lorraine_(region)) region where it is an authorized variety for the ''[Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée](/source/Appellation_d'Origine_Contr%C3%B4l%C3%A9e)'' (AOC) wines of the [Moselle](/source/Moselle_(wine)). While often confused for the [Côtes de Toul](/source/C%C3%B4tes_de_Toul) grape [Aubin blanc](/source/Aubin_blanc), [DNA analysis](/source/DNA_analysis) in 1999 showed that Aubin vert was the result of a [crossing](/source/crossing_(plant)) of [Gouais blanc](/source/Gouais_blanc) with [Pinot](/source/Pinot_(grape)) (an ancestor vine to [Pinot noir](/source/Pinot_noir)). This makes the grape a half-sibling to Aubin blanc (a cross of Gouais blanc and the [Jura wine](/source/Jura_wine) grape [Savagnin](/source/Savagnin)) but full sibling to [Chardonnay](/source/Chardonnay), [Aligoté](/source/Aligot%C3%A9), [Gamay](/source/Gamay) and [Melon de Bourgogne](/source/Melon_de_Bourgogne).<ref name="Wine Grapes">J. [Ampelographer](/source/Ampelographer)s believe that first recorded mention of Aubin vert was in 1722 when a variety known as ''Aubins'' was recorded growing in the Moselle region by a document from the parliament of [Metz](/source/Metz). The plural usage of Aubins suggest that Aubin blanc and Aubin vert were often counted together. The first occurrence of the name Aubin vert itself appeared in 1829.<ref name="Wine Grapes"/>
