'''Atrnerseh''' ({{Langx|hy|Ատրներսեհ}}) was an Armenian ruler of the [Principality of Khachen](/source/Principality_of_Khachen). He was the son and successor of [Sahl Smbatean](/source/Sahl_Smbatean).<ref>[http://www.vostlit.info/Texts/rus/Drash/primtext3.phtml См. комм. 106]</ref>

According to the 10th century Armenian historian [Movses Kaghankatvatsi](/source/Movses_Kaghankatvatsi), Atrnerseh's family was descended from the [Arranshahiks](/source/Aranshahik), the ancient ruling dynasty of [Caucasian Albania](/source/Caucasian_Albania), although the historian [Robert H. Hewsen](/source/Robert_H._Hewsen) considers Atrnerseh and his father as members of a branch of the Armenian [House of Syunik](/source/Siunia_dynasty).<ref name="Atlas">Hewsen, Robert H., ''Armenia: A Historical Atlas''. [The University of Chicago Press](/source/The_University_of_Chicago_Press), 2001, pp. 119, 163.</ref> In 822, Atrnerseh married the last heir of [Mihranid dynasty](/source/Mihranids) (which previously ruled [Caucasian Albania](/source/Caucasian_Albania)), princess Spram. Subsequently, the princedom of Atrnerseh's father Sahl expanded to the east and included the territories of [Artsakh](/source/Artsakh_(historic_province)) and [Gardman](/source/Gardman).<ref name="Atlas"/>

Atrnerseh's possessions mainly covered the region of Upper Khachen, also known as Tsar. His residence was at [Handaberd](/source/Lekh_Castle), a fortress he built in the second quarter of the 9th century.<ref name="karapetyan">{{cite book |last=Karapetyan |first=Samvel |date=1999 |title=Հայ մշակույթի հուշարձանները խորհրդային Ադրբեջանին բռնակցված շրջաններում |trans-title=Armenian cultural monuments in the regions annexed to Soviet Azerbaijan |url=http://tert.nla.am/archive/HAY%20GIRQ/Ardy/1981-2000/karapetyan_1999.pdf |language=hy |location=Yerevan |publisher=Armenian National Academy of Sciences Publishing House |pages=24–30}}</ref> Together with his father and brother John, he participated in the anti-Arab uprising of 854, as a result of which he was arrested by the Arab commander [Bugha al-Turki](/source/Bugha_al-Kabir) and sent to exile in [Samarra](/source/Samarra).<ref>[http://www.vostlit.info/Texts/rus/Drash/frametext3.htm Иованнес Драсханакертци. Atrnerseh ruled over an area approximately corresponding to the historical Armenian province of [Artsakh](/source/Artsakh_(historic_province)).<ref name="hewsen"/>
