***At 89*** is a studio album by [Pete Seeger](/source/Pete_Seeger), released on September 30, 2008, via [Appleseed Records](/source/Appleseed_Recordings).[1] In 2008, the album earned Seeger the [Grammy Award](/source/Grammy_Award) for [Best Traditional Folk Album](/source/Grammy_Award_for_Best_Traditional_Folk_Album).[2]

## Composition

The album features a blend of instrumental and vocal songs, interspersed with spoken word segments. Several tracks were recorded at the [Howland Center](/source/Howland_Cultural_Center) in [Beacon, NY](/source/Beacon%2C_NY) with a large group of people working in community.[*[citation needed](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Citation_needed)*]

"Song of the World's Last Whale" is an [anti-whaling](/source/Anti-whaling) song composed by Seeger in 1970 after he listened to the "[whale song](/source/Whale_song)" discovered by [Roger Payne](/source/Roger_Payne).[3] He gave its rights to the Whale Fund, an auxiliary of the [New York Zoological Society](/source/New_York_Zoological_Society) which is concerned with [whale conservation](/source/Whale_conservation).[4] Despite playing the song live, he did not record it officially until *At 89*.[3][5]
