# Asse (Samtgemeinde)

**Asse** is a former *[Samtgemeinde](/source/Samtgemeinde)* ("collective municipality") in the [district of Wolfenbüttel](/source/Wolfenb%C3%BCttel_(district)), in [Lower Saxony](/source/Lower_Saxony), [Germany](/source/Germany). It is situated approximately 10 km southeast of [Wolfenbüttel](/source/Wolfenb%C3%BCttel). On 1 January 2015 it merged with the *Samtgemeinde* [Schöppenstedt](/source/Sch%C3%B6ppenstedt_(Samtgemeinde)) to form the new *Samtgemeinde* [Elm-Asse](/source/Elm-Asse).

It is named after the [Asse](/source/Asse_(Germany)), a small chain of hills in the municipality. Its seat was in the village [Remlingen](/source/Remlingen,_Lower_Saxony).
