'''''Assa''''' is a genus of [frogs](/source/frog) in the family [Myobatrachidae](/source/Myobatrachidae). These frogs are [endemic](/source/Endemism) to a few parts of eastern Australia.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Assa Tyler, 1972 {{!}} Amphibian Species of the World |url=https://amphibiansoftheworld.amnh.org/Amphibia/Anura/Myobatrachoidea/Myobatrachidae/Assa |access-date=2022-08-02 |website=amphibiansoftheworld.amnh.org}}</ref>

Both species are found on a few mountains in [Queensland](/source/Queensland) and [New South Wales](/source/New_South_Wales). For a significant portion of time, the only species in this genus was the [pouched frog](/source/pouched_frog) (''A. darlingtoni''). However, a second species, ''A. wollumbin'', was described in 2021 following a rangewide genetic survey of ''A. darlingtoni''. Both species are notable in that the males have subcutaneous pouches on their hips in which they carry their tadpoles until they metamorphosize.<ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Mahony |first1=Michael J. |last2=Hines |first2=Harry B. |last3=Mahony |first3=Stephen V. |last4=Moses |first4=Bede |last5=Catalano |first5=Sarah R. |last6=Myers |first6=Steven |last7=Donnellan |first7=Stephen C. |date=2021-10-26 |title=A new hip-pocket frog from mid-eastern Australia (Anura: Myobatrachidae: Assa) |url=https://mapress.com/zt/article/view/zootaxa.5057.4.1 |journal=Zootaxa |language=en |volume=5057 |issue=4 |pages=451–486 |doi=10.11646/zootaxa.5057.4.1 |pmid=34811197 |s2cid=239943400 |issn=1175-5334|url-access=subscription }}</ref><ref>{{Cite journal |last1=Cutajar |first1=Timothy P. |last2=Portway |first2=Christopher D. |last3=Gillard |first3=Grace L. |last4=Rowley |first4=Jodi J.
