'''Asian Boss''' is a [YouTube](/source/YouTube) channel, founded in 2013, which discusses issues related to [Asia](/source/Asia).<ref name=":1" />

== History ==
Asian Boss was founded in 2013 by Stephen Park, a former [corporate lawyer](/source/corporate_lawyer), and Kei Ibaraki, a former [architect](/source/architect), after they witnessed the "growing divide" in society. Neither of them had video editing experience at the time, and they studied by watching tutorials on [YouTube](/source/YouTube).

Park said many of the videos were [demonetized](/source/YouTube) by YouTube for being politically sensitive, and thus they had to rely on investors to fund operations.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|last=Tan|first=Joycelyn|date=January 26, 2021|title=Asian Boss Turns To Crowdfunding After These 3 Factors Led To Their Potential Shutdown|url=https://vulcanpost.com/731525/asian-boss-shut-down-media-company-struggles/|access-date=February 4, 2021|website=vulcanpost.com|language=en-US}}</ref>

In a 2019 interview, Ibaraki said that because of significant media bias on certain topics, the channel would stay as neutral as possible to allow interviewees to speak freely, and would go to great lengths to find respondents with opposing opinions.<ref name=":1">{{Cite web |last=Lukman |first=Josa |title=Kei Ibaraki: Busting Asian stereotypes by the upload |url=https://www.thejakartapost.com/life/2019/11/05/kei-ibaraki-busting-asian-stereotypes-by-the-upload.html |date=November 5, 2019 |access-date=May 10, 2022 |website=[The Jakarta Post](/source/The_Jakarta_Post) |language=en}}</ref> The channel is targeted for an [English-speaking global audience](/source/English-speaking_world) interested in [Asia](/source/Asia), and 30 percent of its views came from the [United States](/source/United_States).<ref name=":1" />

In 2019, the channel released a video interviewing the people of [Beijing](/source/Beijing) on whether actor [Simu Liu](/source/Simu_Liu) was "too ugly" to portray superhero [Shang-Chi](/source/Shang-Chi_(Marvel_Cinematic_Universe)) in ''[Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings](/source/Shang-Chi_and_the_Legend_of_the_Ten_Rings)'', which was released in 2021. Liu responded to the video by calling it a "very teachable moment" about facing rejection and doubt from others, and suggested that the channel should tackle topics with "more journalistic and creative integrity." The video was later removed from YouTube.<ref>{{Cite web |author=Kimberly Yam |date=August 12, 2019 |title=Simu Liu Responds To Critics Who Claim He's 'Too Ugly' To Play Shang-Chi |url=https://www.huffpost.com/entry/simu-liu-responds-to-critics-who-claim-hes-too-ugly-to-play-shang-chi_n_5d51a488e4b0cfeed1a175ee |access-date=May 10, 2022 |website=[HuffPost](/source/HuffPost) |language=en}}</ref><ref>{{Cite web |author=Christian Fußy |date=August 19, 2019 |title=Zu hässlich fürs MCU?
