**Artifact Ridge** is a [mountain](/source/Mountain) [ridge](/source/Ridge) extending southeast from the eastern side of the [Mount Edziza volcanic complex](/source/Mount_Edziza_volcanic_complex) in northwestern [British Columbia](/source/British_Columbia), Canada. It is bounded on the north by [Bourgeaux Creek](/source/Bourgeaux_Creek) valley, on the south by [Artifact Creek](/source/Artifact_Creek) valley, on the east by the [Little Iskut River](/source/Little_Iskut_River) valley and on the west by the [Kitsu Plateau](/source/Kitsu_Plateau).[4] The ridge is at the southeastern end of [Mount Edziza Provincial Park](/source/Mount_Edziza_Provincial_Park) and gets its name from the [knapping](/source/Knapping) of [obsidian](/source/Edziza_obsidian) tools and points by early [Tahltan](/source/Tahltan) hunters.[2] [Destell Pass](/source/Destell_Pass) cuts north–south through the westernmost end of Artifact Ridge.[4]

## Geology

The base of Artifact Ridge is covered with glacial, [talus](/source/Scree) and landslide deposits. The oldest exposed rocks are of [Mesozoic](/source/Mesozoic) or [Paleozoic](/source/Paleozoic) age and are overlain by [Miocene](/source/Miocene) [alkali basalt](/source/Alkali_basalt) flows of the [Raspberry Formation](/source/Raspberry_Formation). The Raspberry rocks are overlain by quenched, [hydrothermally altered](/source/Hydrothermally_altered) and highly fractured Miocene [trachybasalt](/source/Trachybasalt) which comprise the lower subaqueous [facies](/source/Facies) of the [Little Iskut Formation](/source/Little_Iskut_Formation). Overlying these rocks are Miocene trachybasaltic lava flows and flow [breccia](/source/Breccia) comprising the upper subaerial facies of the Little Iskut Formation.[4]

The Little Iskut rocks are overlain by Miocene [comendite](/source/Comendite) or [trachyte](/source/Trachyte) lava flows and [domes](/source/Lava_dome) of the Armadillo Formation which are in turn overlain by [Pliocene](/source/Pliocene) alkali basalt of the Kounugu Member of the [Nido Formation](/source/Nido_Formation). The youngest and uppermost rocks comprising Artifact Ridge are Pliocene alkali basalt flows of the Kitsu Member of the Spectrum Formation which are [interbedded](/source/Interbedded) with [fluvial](/source/Fluvial) gravel and [paleosols](/source/Paleosol).[4]
