Straker's [batting](/source/Batsman_(cricket)) and [bowling](/source/bowling_(cricket)) styles are unknown.  He was born at [Hexham](/source/Hexham), [Northumberland](/source/Northumberland). He was educated at [Harrow School](/source/Harrow_School) and played in the 1909 and 1910 [Eton v Harrow](/source/Eton_v_Harrow) matches at [Lord's](/source/Lord's) as a lower-order batsman.<ref>{{cite web |url-access=subscription  |url=https://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Players/33/33073/all_teams.html|title=Teams Arthur Straker played for|publisher=CricketArchive|accessdate=24 August 2011}}</ref>
