She later married actor [Harry Davenport](/source/Harry_Davenport_(actor)), who adopted Arthur.[3] He was the nephew of [Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Drew](/source/Mr._and_Mrs._Sidney_Drew). Rankin served in the [United States Marine Corps](/source/United_States_Marine_Corps) during [World War I](/source/World_War_I), and received a medical discharge in 1918. He then joined the British Army.
