==Early life==
Born in [Northampton](/source/Northampton), Loyd belonged to a Welsh family, several members of which settled in [Berkshire](/source/Berkshire). His uncle, [Archie Kirkman Loyd](/source/Archie_Kirkman_Loyd), was the Conservative [member of parliament](/source/Member_of_Parliament_(United_Kingdom)) for [Abingdon](/source/Abingdon_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) from 1895 to 1906 and from 1916 to 1918. In 1920, Loyd inherited [Lockinge House](/source/Lockinge_Estate) from [Lady Wantage](/source/Harriet_Sarah_Jones-Loyd%2C_Lady_Wantage),<ref>{{cite web|title=Cilycwm History |url=http://www.cilycwm.com/ci_history.php |accessdate=2007-12-17 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20080203110839/http://www.cilycwm.com/ci_history.php |archivedate=3 February 2008 }}</ref> the wife of his father's second cousin.

==Political career==
Loyd was subsequently elected MP for [Abingdon](/source/Abingdon_(UK_Parliament_constituency)) at a [by-election](/source/by-election) in 1921, and represented the division until he stood down at the [1923 general election](/source/1923_United_Kingdom_general_election).

==Other work==
He was on the governing body of [Abingdon School](/source/Abingdon_School) from 1921 to 1923 and again from 1935 to 1944 in addition to be the Chairman of the Governors from 1939 until his death in 1944.<ref>{{cite web |url=https://www.abingdon.org.uk/uploads/school/files/abingdonian/1944_Christmas_V008_N009.pdf#page=3|title=Obituary|publisher=The Abingdonian}}</ref> He later served as [Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire](/source/Lord_Lieutenant_of_Berkshire) from 1935 until his death in [Stepney](/source/Stepney) in 1944 aged 62.
