# Arthur Fallot

**Étienne-Louis Arthur Fallot** (September 29, 1850, in [Sète](/source/S%C3%A8te), [Hérault](/source/H%C3%A9rault) – April 30, 1911) was a French [physician](/source/Physician).[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Fallot attended medical school in [Montpellier](/source/Montpellier) in 1867. While in residence in [Marseille](/source/Marseille) he wrote a thesis on [pneumothorax](/source/Pneumothorax). In 1888 he was made Professor of Hygiene and Legal Medicine in [Marseille](/source/Marseille). In 1888 Fallot described in detail the four anatomical characteristics of [tetralogy of Fallot](/source/Tetralogy_of_Fallot), a [congenital heart defect](/source/Congenital_heart_defect) responsible for [blue baby syndrome](/source/Blue_baby_syndrome).[7][8]
