== Career ==
Arthur Carron studied under [Florence Easton](/source/Florence_Easton) and made his [opera](/source/opera)tic debut at the [Old Vic](/source/Old_Vic) as [Tannhäuser](/source/Tannh%C3%A4user_(opera)) in 1929. In 1931 he became the Old Vic company's leading tenor when it moved to [Sadler's Wells Theatre](/source/Sadler's_Wells_Theatre). His roles at Sadler's Wells included [Fra Diavolo](/source/Fra_Diavolo_(opera)), Manrico of ''[Il trovatore](/source/Il_trovatore)'', Radames of ''[Aida](/source/Aida)'', Cavaradossi of ''[Tosca](/source/Tosca)'', and [Otello](/source/Otello_(Verdi)). In 1936 he made his [Metropolitan Opera](/source/Metropolitan_Opera) debut as Canio in ''[Pagliacci](/source/Pagliacci)''. He remained at the Metropolitan until 1946, creating the role of Nolan in [Damrosch](/source/Walter_Johannes_Damrosch)'s ''[The Man Without a Country](/source/The_Man_Without_a_Country_(opera))'' in 1937. Other roles there included Siegmund of ''[Die Walküre](/source/Die_Walk%C3%BCre)'', Tristan of ''[Tristan und Isolde](/source/Tristan_und_Isolde)'', Florestan of ''[Fidelio](/source/Fidelio)'', and Herod of ''[Salome](/source/Salome_(opera))''. The last six years of his career were spent at [Covent Garden](/source/Royal_Opera_House) where he retired from in 1952.

He was also a founding member of the Swindon Amateur Light Operatic Society in 1952 and was the producer of their first production [The Arcadians](/source/The_Arcadians_(musical)) at The Empire Theatre in Swindon the same year. == Commemoration ==
