We know very little about him today other than that he was, according to the historian [Herodotus](/source/Herodotus), the commander of the [Utians](/source/Utians) (or "Utii") and [Mycae](/source/Mycae) people (or "Myci") in the army of [Xerxes I](/source/Xerxes_I) during the [Second Persian invasion of Greece](/source/Second_Persian_invasion_of_Greece).<ref>[Herodotus](/source/Herodotus), ''[Histories](/source/Histories_(Herodotus))'' 7.68</ref>
