# Aroania

**Aroania** (Greek: Αροάνια) (also known as "Sopoto") is a village and a former [municipality](/source/Communities_and_Municipalities_of_Greece) in [Achaea](/source/Achaea), [West Greece](/source/West_Greece), [Greece](/source/Greece). Since the 2011 local government reform, it is part of the municipality [Kalavryta](/source/Kalavryta), of which it is a municipal unit.[1] The municipal unit has an area of 173.804 km2.[2] The seat of administration was in the town of [Psofida](/source/Psofida). The municipality is named after the village and the [mountain](/source/Aroania_(mountain)).
