An '''armrest''' (or '''arm-rest''') is a part of a chair, where a person can rest their [arms](/source/Arm) on. Armrests are built into a large variety of chairs such as automotive chairs, armchairs, [airline seats](/source/Airline_seat),<ref>{{Cite web |last=Avila |first=Joseph De |date=2023-10-25 |title=Fliers Tangle Over Armrests. Adjustable armrests are commonly found in ergonomic [office chairs](/source/Office_chair) and [gaming chairs](/source/Gaming_chair).

Armrests are also a feature found in most modern [automobile](/source/automobile)s, on which the occupants can rest their arms. Armrests are commonly placed between the front [car seat](/source/car_seat)s on the [driver](/source/driving) and [passenger](/source/passenger) side of the vehicle. Sometimes one or two armrests may also be attached to each individual seat, a feature commonly found in [minivan](/source/minivan)s (MPVs) and some [SUV](/source/SUV)s.

Many larger cars also have a broad arm-rest between the [back seats](/source/Car_seat), which may be folded out when the central (third) seating place is not required. In some designs where occupant safety is emphasised, including some [Volvo](/source/Volvo_Cars) models, the armrest doubles as a [child seat](/source/child_seat), complete with specially adjustable [seatbelt](/source/seatbelt).

Armrests in some vehicles may also feature further accessories, such as [cup holder](/source/cup_holder)s, [audio](/source/car_audio) and [climate control](/source/Air_conditioner)s as well as storage compartments.
