**Armenian National Unity** ([Armenian](/source/Armenian_language): Հայոց ազգային միաբանություն, [romanized](/source/Romanization_of_Armenian): *Hayots Hamazkayin Miasnutyun*), sometimes known as **Armenian National Union**, is an [Armenian](/source/Armenia) [political party](/source/Political_party) that is headquartered in [Yerevan](/source/Yerevan). It is led by former deputy of the [Republican Party of Armenia](/source/Republican_Party_of_Armenia), [Mihran Poghosyan](/source/Mihran_Poghosyan).[3]

## History

The party was established on 6 March 2024 with Mihran Poghosyan elected as party chairman. Poghosyan returned to Armenia from residing in [Russia](/source/Russia) and resigned his membership in the Republican Party of Armenia prior to founding the party.[4][5]

On 24 April 2024, during the [2024 Armenian protests](/source/2024_Armenian_protests), party members gathered in downtown Yerevan and called for the resignation of prime minister [Nikol Pashinyan](/source/Nikol_Pashinyan) and announced support for protest leader [Bagrat Galstanyan](/source/Bagrat_Galstanyan).[6][7]

On 6 September 2024, some party members were summoned by the [National Security Service](/source/National_Security_Service_(Armenia)) for questioning.[8][9] On 18 October 2024, the party announced that eight party members were arrested by police, including the vice-president of the party, Ararat Avetisyan.[5][10][11]

The party has no political representation within the [National Assembly](/source/National_Assembly_of_Armenia) and currently acts as an [extra-parliamentary](/source/Extra-parliamentary_opposition) force.

## Ideology

The party advocates for the rights of Armenians displaced from the [Second Nagorno-Karabakh War](/source/Second_Nagorno-Karabakh_War) to return to [Artsakh](/source/Republic_of_Artsakh) and opposes any territorial concessions to Azerbaijan.[4][12]
