The site is owned and managed by the [Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust](/source/Gloucestershire_Wildlife_Trust). It was donated to the Trust as a nature reserve in 2009.<ref name="Reserves online"/>

==Location and habitat==
The reserve is an example of [ancient woodland](/source/ancient_woodland) which supports a wide range of species. It is about 500 m to the north of [Dowdeswell](/source/Dowdeswell) and is near [Whittington](/source/Whittington%2C_Gloucestershire).<ref name="Reserves online"/> It is near a former reserve which was held under lease being [Dowdeswell Reservoir and Wood](/source/Dowdeswell_Reservoir). It is near the [Cotswold Way](/source/Cotswold_Way) national trail.
