==History==

The route now known as Highway 7 first appears as a state maintained road in 1924, when the [Arkansas General Assembly](/source/Arkansas_General_Assembly) first created a federal aid system. Two main routes, State Road B-14 and State Road A-5 form a rough trail similar to the present-day Highway 7.<ref>{{ cite map|title=Map of State of Arkansas Showing System of Primary and Secondary Federal Aid Roads and Connecting State Roads and Progress of Improvements |date=December 31, 1924 |publisher=Arkansas State Highway Department |url=http://www.arkansashighways.com/planning_research/mapping_graphics/archived_tourist_maps/1924B.tif |format=TIF |access-date=March 20, 2011 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110707162253/http://www.arkansashighways.com/planning_research/mapping_graphics/archived_tourist_maps/1924B.tif |archive-date=July 7, 2011 }}</ref> Upon creation of the [U.S. Route system](/source/United_States_Numbered_Highways) in 1925, the north and south portions of the highway were replaced by [US 65](/source/U.S._Route_65_in_Arkansas) to [Harrison](/source/Harrison%2C_Arkansas) and [US 167](/source/U.S._Route_167), respectively.<ref>{{ cite map|title=Map of State of Arkansas showing System of State Highways |publisher=Arkansas State Highway Department |year=1926 |url=http://www.arkansashighways.com/planning_research/mapping_graphics/archived_tourist_maps/1926A.tif |format=TIF |access-date=March 20, 2011 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110707162238/http://www.arkansashighways.com/planning_research/mapping_graphics/archived_tourist_maps/1926A.tif |archive-date=July 7, 2011 }}</ref> Arkansas [numbered its highways in 1926](/source/1926_Arkansas_state_highway_numbering), and the route became Highway 7 (the north part of A-5 remains as [Highway 5](/source/Arkansas_Highway_5)).
