**Argalant** ([Mongolian](/source/Mongolian_language): Аргалант) is a [sum](/source/Sums_of_Mongolia) in [Mongolia](/source/Mongolia)'s [Töv Province](/source/T%C3%B6v_Province), just west of [Ulaanbaatar](/source/Ulaanbaatar). The area is 1210 square kilometres, of which about 160 square kilometres are farmland and 940 square kilometres are pasture. In 2005, the sum had 1892 inhabitants in 387 households.[1] Distance from sum center to Ulaanbaatar[2] is 82 km. The sum was founded in 1977, in the first year of Mongolia's second [Virgin Soils](https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Virgin_Soils&action=edit&redlink=1) campaign.

The district is divided into two [bags](/source/Bags_of_Mongolia), which are:[3]

- Khushuut

## Economy and Livestock

Main sectors of the economy are livestock herding, farming, trade and tourism. In 2004, the sum housed roughly 44,000 heads of livestock, including 18,000 [goats](/source/Goat), 20,000 [sheep](/source/Sheep), 2,200 heads of [cattle](/source/Cattle), 4,000 [horses](/source/Horse) and 6 [camels](/source/Bactrian_camel).[4]
