'''Arenaccia''' is a historical neighborhood or ''zona'' of the [Fourth Municipality](/source/Fourth_Municipality_of_Naples) of northeastern [Naples](/source/Naples), [Italy](/source/Italy). Its name derives from the Via Arenaccia road that divides the neighborhoods of [San Lorenzo](/source/San_Lorenzo_(Naples)) and [Vicaria](/source/Vicaria), which covers the area. The east–west boundaries are represented roughly by the [Piazza Carlo III](/source/Piazza_Carlo_III) and the [Corso Malta](/source/Corso_Malta), while the north-west boundaries are represented from the beginning and end of the Via Arenaccia.

The district was created with the work of reorganization, to expand the city. A Royal Decree of 25 July 1885 approved the expansion in ten districts of the town of Naples (Arenaccia, [Sant'Eframo](/source/Sant'Eframo), [Vecchio](/source/Vecchio%2C_Campania), [Ottocalli](/source/Ottocalli), [Ponti Rossi](/source/Ponti_Rossi), [Miradois](/source/Miradois), [Materdei](/source/Materdei_(Naples_Metro)), [Vomero](/source/Vomero)-[Arenella](/source/Arenella), [Belvedere](/source/Belvedere%2C_Naples), and [Rione Amedeo](/source/Rione_Amedeo)) and two suburban districts. [Frank M. Snowden](/source/Frank_M._Snowden) says of the district, "Arenaccia, Ottocalli and S. Maria delle Paludi instantly became unhygienic modern slums.
