'''''Arctacanthus''''' is an [extinct](/source/extinct) [genus](/source/genus) of [cartilaginous fish](/source/cartilaginous_fish) from the [Permian](/source/Permian) and possibly [Triassic](/source/Triassic) periods.

==Occurrence==
''Arctacanthus'' is known by two named species from the Permian, ''A. uncinatus'' and ''A. wyomingensis''.<ref>{{cite journal |last=Nielsen |first=Eigil |author-link=Eigil Nielsen (paleontologist) |year=1932 |title=Permo-Carboniferous fishes from East Greenland |journal=Meddelelser om Grønland |volume=86 |issue=3 |pages=1–63}}</ref><ref name=Branson1934>{{cite journal |last=Branson |first= C. They are known only by isolated hook-shaped "[ichthyolith](/source/ichthyolith)s" thought to represent dermal denticles of a [chimaera](/source/chimaera)n. Some have attributed these to teeth or [hybodont](/source/Hybodontiformes) cephalic spines. Similar ichthyoliths of much smaller size have been found in [Japan](/source/Japan) and [China](/source/China) in rocks of [Anisian](/source/Anisian) age. The large difference in age, location, and size means their attribution to this genus is uncertain; nonetheless, the species ''A. exiguus'' was named in Japan.<ref>{{cite journal |last1=Chen |first1=Lide |last2=Cuny |first2=Gilles |last3=Wang |first3=Xiaofeng |year=2007 |title=The chondrichthyan fauna from the Middle-Late Triassic of Guanling (Guizhou province, SW China) |journal=Historical Biology |volume=19 |issue=4 |pages=291–300 |doi=10.1080/08912960701248234|bibcode=2007HBio...19..291C |s2cid=128482370 }}</ref><ref>{{cite book |last=Yamagishi |first=H. |year=2004 |chapter=Elasmobranch remains from the Taho limestone (lower-Middle Triassic) of Ehime prefecture, Southwest Japan |title=Mesozoic fishes 3 — Systematics, Paleoenvironments and Biodiversity |editor1=G.
