'''Archie Satterfield''' (June 18, 1933 – November 21, 2011) was a [Seattle](/source/Seattle)-based author and journalist.

Satterfield was born and raised in the [Missouri Ozarks](/source/Missouri_Ozarks).  He joined the [American Navy](/source/American_Navy) in 1952 and later graduated with an English degree from the [University of Washington](/source/University_of_Washington).  He worked as a journalist for various newspapers, including ''[Seaside Signal](/source/Seaside_Signal)'', ''[Longview Daily News](/source/Longview_Daily_News)'', ''[Seattle Times](/source/Seattle_Times)'', and the ''[Seattle Post-Intelligencer](/source/Seattle_Post-Intelligencer)'', before starting his own magazine, ''[Northwest Edition](/source/Northwest_Edition)'', in 1980.<ref name="obituary" /><ref name="quad" />  In 1987 he became a full-time freelance writer, penning corporate histories for [Alaska Airlines](/source/Alaska_Airlines), [Crescent Foods](/source/Crescent_Foods), [Darigold](/source/Darigold), and [Tillamook Cheese](/source/Tillamook_Cheese).  He also authored 40 books on history and travel, many of which covered [Alaska](/source/Alaska) and the [Pacific Northwest](/source/Pacific_Northwest).<ref name="obituary" />
