**April Dobson** is an American politician currently serving in the [Oregon House of Representatives](/source/Oregon_House_of_Representatives). A member of the [Democratic Party](/source/Democratic_Party_(United_States)), she represents the [39th district](/source/Oregon's_39th_House_district), which includes [Happy Valley](/source/Happy_Valley%2C_Oregon), [Clackamas](/source/Clackamas%2C_Oregon), and a small portion of outer southeastern [Portland](/source/Portland%2C_Oregon).[1]

Dobson is also a member of the [North Clackamas School Board](/source/North_Clackamas_School_District).[2]

## Early life and education

Dobson was born and raised in Oregon and graduated from [Scappoose High School](/source/Scappoose_High_School) in [Scappoose](/source/Scappoose%2C_Oregon).[3] She attended the [University of Oregon](/source/University_of_Oregon), earning a bachelor's degree in 1997.[4] Dobson lived in [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles) for a time where she was involved with helping to reopen libraries that had closed due to funding issues.[5]

## Career

In 2023, Dobson ran for position #7 on the [North Clackamas School Board](/source/North_Clackamas_School_District) to oppose three candidates backed by the conservative Oregon Mom's Union. She won in the May election.[6] [State Representative](/source/Oregon_House_of_Representatives) [Janelle Bynum](/source/Janelle_Bynum) helped with the race, and when Bynum announced her candidacy for congress in the [upcoming election](/source/2024_United_States_House_of_Representatives_elections_in_Oregon#District_5), she encouraged Dobson to run for her seat.[5] Dobson ran unopposed in the Democratic primary, and went on to defeat [Republican](/source/Republican_Party_(United_States)) Aimee Reiner in the [November general election](/source/2024_Oregon_House_of_Representatives_election).[7]

In the 2025 session, Dobson was appointed vice-chair of the House Education Committee. She was also appointed to the Housing and Homelessness Committee and the Committee on Economic Development, Small Business, and Trade.[8][9]

## Personal life

Dobson is married and has 3 children, including one with autism.[10][11] They live in [Happy Valley](/source/Happy_Valley%2C_Oregon).[12]
