'''Appanoose''' was a 19th-century [Meskwaki](/source/Meskwaki) chief who lived in [Iowa](/source/Iowa); he was the son of [Taimah](/source/Taimah) (Chief Tama)<ref>''Annals of Iowa'' (1903) Vol. 6, p. 203</ref> and probably a grandson of [Quashquame](/source/Quashquame). Prior to European-American settlement in the 19th century, the tribe occupied territory in what became Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois and Iowa.
