'''Anwar Yassin''' (({{langx|ar|أنور ياسين|ʾAnwar Yāssīn}}) is a former [Lebanese](/source/Lebanon) prisoner in [Israeli](/source/State_of_Israel) prisons. He was both a member of the [Popular Guard](/source/Popular_Guard), the armed wing of the [Lebanese Communist Party](/source/Lebanese_Communist_Party) (LCP), and the broader [Lebanese National Resistance Front](/source/Lebanese_National_Resistance_Front) (LNRF; aka ''Jammoul'') guerrilla alliance, since his early youth in the mid-1980s. He was arrested by the [Israel Defense Forces](/source/Israel_Defense_Forces) (IDF) during an operation in [southern Lebanon](/source/southern_Lebanon), near the [Shebaa Farms](/source/Shebaa_Farms), in September 1987, when he was only 17 years old.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.worldpress.org/Mideast/1882.cfm#down|title=Longest Serving Prisoner Tells His Story|access-date=2023-09-03}}</ref>

He was released in an exchange operation between the Lebanese resistance led by [Hizbollah](/source/Hizbollah) and the IDF in January 2005 after spending 18 years in detention. Anwar Yassin ran for parliamentary elections representing the LCP in May 2005 and got 18,244 votes in [Bint Jbeil](/source/Bint_Jbeil) in southern Lebanon,<ref>{{cite web|url=http://www.lebanonwire.com/prominent/elections2005/full_results.asp|title=Elections 2005 - Lists and Candidates|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080908060110/http://www.lebanonwire.com/prominent/elections2005/full_results.asp|archive-date=2008-09-08|access-date=2023-09-03}}</ref> but lost to his opponents from the Hizbollah and [Amal](/source/Amal_Movement) parties.

Since his release from prison, Yassin has been active in both the [Union of Lebanese Democratic Youth](/source/Union_of_Lebanese_Democratic_Youth) and the LCP. He was elected as member of the central committee of the party in its 10th congress in March 2009. He also works as a reporter for the Lebanese television station [New TV](/source/Al_Jadeed).
