'''Chao Anurutha''' (also spelled '''Anouruttha''' or '''Anurathurat'''; {{langx|lo|ເຈົ້າອານຸຣຸດທະ}}; 1737 – 31 December 1819) was the king of [Luang Phrabang](/source/Kingdom_of_Luang_Phrabang) from 1792 to 1819.<ref name="dictionary">{{cite book|last=Stuart-Fox|first=Martin|title=History Dictionary of Laos|year=2008|edition=3rd|publisher=Scarecrow Press, Inc.|isbn=978-0-8108-5624-0|page=11}}</ref>

Anurutha was the fourth son of king [Inthasom](/source/Inthasom). He was appointed the [viceroy](/source/viceroy) (''[oupahat](/source/uparaja)'') of Luang Phrabang in 1768. In 1788, he was taken as hostage to [Bangkok](/source/Bangkok) together with other royalties. He was not allowed to return until 3 February 1792.{{citation needed|date=August 2020}} After a four-year [interregnum](/source/interregnum), he was crowned in Luang Phrabang by Siamese in 1792.<ref name="dictionary"/> However, he was accused of in treasonous contact with [Burmese](/source/Burma) by the [Vientiane](/source/Kingdom_of_Vientiane) king [Nanthasen](/source/Nanthasen). [Rama I](/source/Rama_I) permitted Nanthasen to attack Luang Prabang. After the capture of [Luang Phrabang](/source/Luang_Phrabang), Anurutha was detained in Bangkok. After [Chinese](/source/China) intervention, Anurutha was allowed to return to Luang Phrabang in 1796.<ref name="dictionary"/> He died on 31 December 1819.{{citation needed|date=August 2020}}
