# Anthony Stack

[Brigadier General](/source/Brigadier_General) **Anthony Thomas Stack**, [OMM](/source/Order_of_Military_Merit_(Canada)), [CD](/source/Canadian_Forces'_Decoration) is a Brigadier General in service of the [Canadian Forces](/source/Canadian_Forces). He is the Deputy Commander of the [Land Force Atlantic Area](/source/Land_Force_Atlantic_Area).

## Early life

Stack, was born in [St. John's](/source/St._John's,_Newfoundland_and_Labrador), [Newfoundland](/source/Newfoundland_and_Labrador) in 1961. He attended [Gonzaga High School](/source/Gonzaga_High_School), and was a member of 2415 [Gonzaga](/source/Gonzaga_High_School) [Royal Canadian Army Cadets](/source/Royal_Canadian_Army_Cadets) Corps.

## Military career

Stack enlisted in the [Army reserve](/source/Army_reserve) in 1978. He served two terms as the [commanding officer](/source/Commanding_officer) of the [56 Field Engineer Squadron](/source/56_Field_Engineer_Squadron), as well as one term as G3 Newfoundland District. He was also company commander and chief instructor at the [Atlantic Area Rank and Trade School](/source/Atlantic_Area_Rank_and_Trade_School) in [Gagetown](/source/Gagetown,_New_Brunswick), [New Brunswick](/source/New_Brunswick). A graduate of the [Army Command and Staff College](/source/Army_Command_and_Staff_College) in [Kingston](/source/Kingston,_Ontario), [Ontario](/source/Ontario), and the Joint Reserve Command and Staff Program at the [Canadian Forces College](/source/Canadian_Forces_College) in [Toronto](/source/Toronto). In 2001 Brigadier-General Stack was the first commanding officer of the Land Force Atlantic Area [Civil-Military Co-operation](/source/Civil-Military_Co-operation) (CIMIC) unit. In January 2004, he deployed with [Operation ATHENA](/source/Operation_ATHENA) to [Afghanistan](/source/Afghanistan), where he served as the chief of CIMIC Operations for the [NATO](/source/NATO)-led International Security Assistance Force in [Kabul](/source/Kabul). After returning from Afghanistan he was promoted to [lieutenant colonel](/source/Lieutenant_colonel) and placed in deputy command of [37 Canadian Brigade](/source/37_Canadian_Brigade) group. In 2006 he was promoted to the rank of [colonel](/source/Colonel) and assumed command of the brigade. In December 2009 he was promoted to the rank of brigadier general and made deputy commander of the Land Force Atlantic Area.

## Civilian life

At the [Memorial University of Newfoundland](/source/Memorial_University_of_Newfoundland) Brigadier-General Stack earned a [Bachelor of Education](/source/Bachelor_of_Education) (Secondary) and [Bachelor of Science](/source/Bachelor_of_Science) (Mathematics) degrees in 1985 and obtained a [Master of Education](/source/Master_of_Education) (Leadership Studies) in 2001. Today Brigadier General Stack was also the [principal](/source/Principal_(school)) of St.Peter's Junior High School in [Mount Pearl](/source/Mount_Pearl), [Newfoundland and Labrador](/source/Newfoundland_and_Labrador) before leaving in 2011. He has a wife named Wanda and one son named Shane.[1]
