'''Anthony Rossiter''' RWA MSIAD was a British landscape painter who was educated at [Eton](/source/Eton_College) and studied painting at [Chelsea Art School](/source/Chelsea_College_of_Arts) from 1947-51. He was a romantic visionary, a “poet” whose particular heaven was the [Mendip Hills](/source/Mendip_Hills) in Somerset. Gnarled hedgerows, tumbling stone walls, broken gates, reflections in water and ploughed fields were all his subject matter. His works also included portraits, most notably that of W.H.Auden.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/1374920/Anthony-Rossiter.html|title=Anthony Rossiter|website=Telegraph.co.uk|access-date=2016-05-11}}</ref>

His painting initially had the lyrical qualities of [John Nash](/source/John_Nash_(artist)) and the Realist painters of the 1950s and 1960s. As he matured, it became a vigorous expressionist style.<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.anthonyrossiter.co.uk/life.html|title=Anthony Rossiter Synopsis|website=Anthonyrossiter.co.uk}}</ref>
