**Anthony Cheung** (born January 17, 1982) is an American composer and a pianist.

## Early life and education

Cheung was born in [San Francisco](/source/San_Francisco) in 1982.[1] He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music and history from [Harvard University](/source/Harvard_University) and a DMA in music from [Columbia University](/source/Columbia_University).[2]

## Career

Cheung composes a wide range of concert music, including solo and orchestral works. His works have been commissioned by [Ensemble Modern](/source/Ensemble_Modern),[3][4] [Ensemble Intercontemporain](/source/Ensemble_InterContemporain), and the [Cleveland Orchestra](/source/Cleveland_Orchestra), among others. He won a [Guggenheim](/source/Guggenheim_Fellowship) Fellowship in 2016,[5] the [Rome Prize](/source/Rome_Prize) in 2013,[6] and first prize in the Sixth International Dutilleux Competition (2008).[7]

Cheung was the co-director of the Grossman Ensemble at the [University of Chicago](/source/University_of_Chicago). He is an associate professor of music at [Brown University](/source/Brown_University).[8]
