# Anthony Chavez

**Anthony Francisco Chavez** (born October 22, 1970) is an American former professional [baseball](/source/Baseball) player who played 13 professional baseball seasons. In 1992, he made the All-[Big West Conference](/source/Big_West_Conference) Second Team out of [San Jose State University](/source/San_Jose_State_Spartans_baseball) and a 50th round selection by the [California Angels](/source/California_Angels) in the [1992 June Draft](/source/1992_Major_League_Baseball_draft). He made his major league debut on September 2, 1997, against the [Colorado Rockies](/source/Colorado_Rockies) where he recorded 28 days of major league service. After the Angels he continued his professional career playing one season for the [Oakland A's](/source/Oakland_Athletics) [Triple-A World Series](/source/Triple-A_World_Series) champions [Vancouver Canadians](/source/Vancouver_Canadians_(PCL)) in 1999. He also played two season for the [Arizona Diamondbacks](/source/Arizona_Diamondbacks) Triple-A club, the [Tucson Sidewinders](/source/Tucson_Sidewinders), from 2001 to 2002. He then finished off the rest of his pro career playing in the [independent](/source/Independent_baseball_league) [Atlantic League](/source/Atlantic_League_of_Professional_Baseball) for the [Atlantic City Surf](/source/Atlantic_City_Surf) from 2002 to 2005.

## After big leagues

Chavez received his Bachelor of Science in Sports Coaching from the United States Sports Academy and teaching certification from [Pima Community College](/source/Pima_Community_College). Chavez has served as a pitching coach at [Cienega High School](/source/Cienega_High_School) in [Vail, Arizona](/source/Vail,_Arizona) and head baseball coach at [Mountain View High School](/source/Mountain_View_High_School_(Pima_County,_Arizona)) in [Marana, Arizona](/source/Marana,_Arizona), [Rincon](/source/Rincon_High_School)/[University High](/source/University_High_School_(Tucson)) and [Desert View High School](/source/Desert_View_High_School) in [Tucson, Arizona](/source/Tucson,_Arizona). He is currently teaching at [Andrada Polytechnic High School](/source/Andrada_Polytechnic_High_School) in Tucson.
