# Anolis carpenteri

***Anolis carpenteri***, also known [commonly](/source/Common_name) as **Carpenter's anole** or the **carpenter anole**[1] is a [species](/source/Species) of [lizard](/source/Lizard) in the [family](/source/Family_(taxonomy)) [Dactyloidae](/source/Dactyloidae). The species is [endemic](/source/Endemism) to [Central America](/source/Central_America).

## Etymology

The [specific name](/source/Specific_name_(zoology)), *carpenteri*, is in honor of American herpetologist [Charles Congden Carpenter](/source/Charles_Congden_Carpenter).[2]

## Description

*A. carpenteri* is a small, green lizard with an orange dewlap and smooth ventral scales.[citation needed]

## Habitat

Carpenter's anole prefers relatively open [habitat](/source/Habitat) in the lowland interface between land and [watercourses](/source/Watercourse), and is adapted for climbing on lichen-covered rocks, tree trunks, and shrubs.[citation needed]

## Geographic range

*A. carpenteri* is found in [Costa Rica](/source/Costa_Rica), [Nicaragua](/source/Nicaragua), and [Panama](/source/Panama).[1] In Costa Rica it is found in Amistad Caribe, Huetar Norte, [Cordillera](/source/Cordillera) Volcanica Central, [Guanacaste](/source/Guanacaste_Province), [Tortuguero](/source/Tortuguero_Conservation_Area).[3]

The type locality is [Río Reventazón](/source/Reventazon_River), [Turrialba](/source/Turrialba_(canton)), [Cartago Province](/source/Cartago_Province), Costa Rica.[4]

## Diet
