# Annette Corcoran

**Annette Corcoran** (born 1930) is an American artist who was born in [Inglewood, California](/source/Inglewood,_California). She earned a B.A. from the [University of California, Berkeley](/source/University_of_California,_Berkeley) in 1952, and continued post-graduate studies at [California State University, Long Beach](/source/California_State_University,_Long_Beach), [California Polytechnic State University](/source/California_Polytechnic_State_University), [Saddleback College](/source/Saddleback_College), and the [College of Marin](/source/College_of_Marin).[1]

She worked as a graphic artist for 15 years before turning to ceramics.[2] She then spent 25 years making ceramic teapots. Although originally functional, they evolved into non-functional works of art.[3]

*[Anhinga](/source/Anhinga)*, in the collection of the [Honolulu Museum of Art](/source/Honolulu_Museum_of_Art), is typical of her teapots, which usually incorporate birds into the design. It is made of hand-built porcelain, employing both [underglazes](/source/Underglaze) and [overglazes](/source/On-glaze_decoration).[4] The [Everson Museum of Art](/source/Everson_Museum_of_Art) (Syracuse, New York), the [Honolulu Museum of Art](/source/Honolulu_Museum_of_Art), the [Los Angeles County Museum of Art](/source/Los_Angeles_County_Museum_of_Art), and the [National Museum of Ceramic Art](/source/National_Museum_of_Ceramic_Art) (Baltimore, Maryland), the [Philadelphia Museum of Art](/source/Philadelphia_Museum_of_Art), and the [Racine Art Museum](/source/Racine_Art_Museum) (Racine, Wisconsin) are among the public collections holding work by Annette Corcoran.[5][2]
