# Angus MacColl

**Angus D. MacColl** is a Scottish [bagpipe](/source/Great_Highland_bagpipe) player.

## Life

He was born in [Benderloch](/source/Benderloch), near [Oban](/source/Oban), and initially learnt the pipes from his father.[1] MacColl is descended from a number of famous pipers, including John MacColl.[1] His son Angus J. MacColl is also a competitive piper.[2][3]

He teaches at the [Oban High School](/source/Oban_High_School).[4]

## Career

MacColl won gold medals at both the [Northern Meeting](/source/Northern_Meeting) and [Argyllshire Gathering](/source/Argyllshire_Gathering).[1] He also won the former winners Clasp at the Northern Meeting, several [Ceòl Beag](/source/Ce%C3%B2l_Beag) prizes,[5][6] and the Metro Cup, in 2012.[7] Additionally, he won the [Glenfiddich Championships](/source/Glenfiddich_Piping_and_Fiddle_Championships) four times, in 1995, 2006, 2010 and 2015.[8][9]

He played with the [Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band](/source/Spirit_of_Scotland_Pipe_Band) when it formed in 2008 and 2016.[10]
