# Angliers, Quebec

**Angliers** (ɑ̃ɡlije) is a [former village municipality](/source/List_of_former_municipalities_in_Quebec) in northwestern [Quebec](/source/Quebec), Canada, in the [Témiscamingue Regional County Municipality](/source/T%C3%A9miscamingue_Regional_County_Municipality). It is one of the two sectors in the municipality of [Laverlochère-Angliers](/source/Laverloch%C3%A8re-Angliers).

## History

The first settlers arrived in 1911, but the village developed from 1924 onwards, after the Pouvoir-des-Quinze hydro-electric power station was built in 1922. It was named after [Angliers, Vienne](/source/Angliers,_Vienne), in France, the ancestral birthplace of [Lomer Gouin](/source/Lomer_Gouin), premier of Quebec from 1905 to 1920. The forestry industry and log driving contributed greatly to its development.[1][4]

On May 24, 1945, it was incorporated as the Village Municipality of Angliers with its territory taken from the [Township Municipality of Guérin](/source/Gu%C3%A9rin,_Quebec) and the [Municipality of Saint-Eugène-de-Guigues](/source/Saint-Eug%C3%A8ne-de-Guigues).[5]

It amalgamated with the Municipality of [Laverlochère](/source/Laverloch%C3%A8re) on January 1, 2018, to form the Municipality of [Laverlochère-Angliers](/source/Laverloch%C3%A8re-Angliers).[6]
