# Angelina Stepanova

**Angelina Iosifovna Stepanova** (Rus: Ангели́на Ио́сифовна Степа́нова; 23 November 1905 – 17 May 2000) was a Soviet and Russian stage and film actress, teacher.[1] She was winner of the [Stalin Prize](/source/USSR_State_Prize) of I class (1952) and [USSR State Prize](/source/USSR_State_Prize) (1977).[2] [People's Artist of the USSR](/source/People's_Artist_of_the_USSR) (1960).[3]

## Biography

Stepanova was born on 23 November 1905 in Nikolayevsk (now [Nikolayevsk-on-Amur](/source/Nikolayevsk-on-Amur), [Khabarovsk Krai](/source/Khabarovsk_Krai)) in the family of an [insurance agent](/source/Insurance_agent) and a [dentist](/source/Dentist). Studying in a Moscow gymnasium, she was fond of ballet. Since 1921 she studied at the [theater school](/source/Boris_Shchukin_Theatre_Institute) at the [Vakhtangov Theatre](/source/Vakhtangov_Theatre), which she graduated in 1924, from the same year she worked at the [Moscow Art Theatre](/source/Moscow_Art_Theatre). She later became a professor at the [Moscow Art Theatre School](/source/Moscow_Art_Theatre_School).

Stepanova started her film career in 1932.[4]

## Death

She died on 17 May 2000 and was buried at the [Novodevichy Cemetery](/source/Novodevichy_Cemetery).
