**Andrew Douglas Garfield** (born January 31, 1974, in [Fullerton, California](/source/Fullerton,_California))[2] is an American composer.[3] He is best known for his collaborations with filmmaker [Adam Green](/source/Adam_Green_(filmmaker)),[4] as the composer of films including *[Hatchet](/source/Hatchet_(film))*,[5] *[Frozen](/source/Frozen_(2010_American_film))*,[6] and *[Hatchet II](/source/Hatchet_II)*.[7]

Garfield's other contributions to the [horror genre](/source/Horror_film) include music and score for *[The Eden Formula](/source/The_Eden_Formula)*, *[The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde](/source/The_Strange_Case_of_Dr._Jekyll_and_Mr._Hyde_(2006_film))*, *[Chillerama](/source/Chillerama)*,[8] *[The Summer of Massacre](/source/The_Summer_of_Massacre)*,[9] and *[Almost Human](/source/Almost_Human_(2013_film))*.[10] Under the banner of his company Pachinko Media, he has also been prolific in [themed entertainment](/source/Themed_entertainment).[11]

## Early life and education

Garfield was born Andrew Douglas Garfield on January 31, 1974, in [Fullerton](/source/Fullerton,_California), [California](/source/California).[2] After graduating from [Canyon High School](/source/Canyon_High_School_(Anaheim,_California)) in [Anaheim Hills](/source/Anaheim_Hills),[12] Garfield went on to earn a [bachelor's degree](/source/Bachelor_of_Arts) in music and architecture from the [University of Southern California](/source/University_of_Southern_California), studying under famed [Disney](/source/Disney) composer [Buddy Baker](/source/Buddy_Baker_(composer)).[13]

## Career

### Film

Garfield's first feature film was the [slasher film](/source/Slasher_film) *[Hatchet](/source/Hatchet_(film))* in 2006, which was his first of four collaborations with filmmaker [Adam Green](/source/Adam_Green_(filmmaker)).[1] His next film with Green was the 2010 [psychological horror](/source/Psychological_horror) [survival film](/source/Survival_film) *[Frozen](/source/Frozen_(2010_American_film))*, which received rave reviews from critics for its score.[2] Garfield and Green further collaborated on *[Hatchet II](/source/Hatchet_II)* in 2010 and the Diary of Anne Frankenstein segment of *[Chillerama](/source/Chillerama)* in 2011.[7][8]

### Themed entertainment

Garfield composed the music for the [shooting](/source/Shooting) [interactive dark ride](/source/Interactive_dark_ride) [Men in Black: Alien Attack](/source/Men_in_Black:_Alien_Attack), which opened in April 2000.[14] The ride received a [Thea award](/source/Thea_award) for Outstanding Achievement from the [Themed Entertainment Association](/source/Themed_Entertainment_Association).[15] He worked with [Phil Hettema](/source/Phil_Hettema) once again on a [4D](/source/4D_film) [immersive](/source/Immersion_(virtual_reality)) experience at [Los Angeles](/source/Los_Angeles) [Union Station](/source/Union_Station_(Los_Angeles)).[16][17]

Garfield's specialization in the horror genre extends to his work in themed entertainment as well. During the [COVID-19 pandemic](/source/COVID-19_pandemic_in_Florida), he composed the music for a [socially-distanced](/source/Social_distancing) [drive-in](/source/Drive-in_theater) [haunted attraction](/source/Haunted_attraction_(simulated)) called Night at the Die-In in [Kissimmee, Florida](/source/Kissimmee,_Florida).[18] Garfield previously composed the music for the [Marathon of Mayhem](/source/Marathon_of_Mayhem) show at [Halloween Horror Nights](/source/Halloween_Horror_Nights) at [Universal Orlando Resort](/source/Universal_Orlando_Resort).[19] In 2024, Garfield supervised all music and audio production for the [catacombs](/source/Catacombs)-themed dark ride Dämonen Gruft at [Germany](/source/Germany)’s [Heide Park](/source/Heide_Park).[20][21]
