**Andy Chase** is an American musician, record producer, and label owner. He formed the band [Ivy](/source/Ivy_(band)) with [Adam Schlesinger](/source/Adam_Schlesinger) of [Fountains of Wayne](/source/Fountains_of_Wayne) and Dominique Durand, now his wife. Chase owns Unfiltered Records and co-owned Stratosphere Sound studio with Schlesinger and [James Iha](/source/James_Iha) of [the Smashing Pumpkins](/source/The_Smashing_Pumpkins).

## Early life

Chase grew up in [Bethesda, Maryland](/source/Bethesda%2C_Maryland). He was a fan of pop and [new wave](/source/New_wave_music) acts in the 1980s such as [the Smiths](/source/The_Smiths), [Talk Talk](/source/Talk_Talk), [Blondie](/source/Blondie_(band)), and [the Cars](/source/The_Cars). At a portable home studio, he wrote music and played keyboards and guitar.

## Career

Eager to start a band, he moved to New York City in the 1990s and placed an ad in the *[Village Voice](/source/Village_Voice)*. He met multi-instrumentalist [Adam Schlesinger](/source/Adam_Schlesinger), and in 1994, formed the band [Ivy](/source/Ivy_(band)) with Dominique Durand. He and Schlesinger co-produced, engineered, and sang on the title track for the [Tom Hanks](/source/Tom_Hanks) film *[That Thing You Do!](/source/That_Thing_You_Do!)* in 1995. He also founded the bands Paco, [Brookville](/source/Brookville_(band)), and Camera2.[1]

Chase has served as composer, producer, engineer, mixer, and musician on each of his bands' (Ivy, Brookville, Paco) albums.[2][3]

He established Unfiltered Records in 2003,[4] re-released Ivy's catalog, and produced albums for his side projects, Paco and Brookville. He also produced albums for acts he signed to his label, such as [the Postmarks](/source/The_Postmarks) and Ukrainian singer [Lana Mir](/source/Lana_Mir). In 2009, he produced and performed on [Juliana Hatfield](/source/Juliana_Hatfield)'s album *[How to Walk Away](/source/How_to_Walk_Away)*.[3] He has also produced albums for [the Smashing Pumpkins](/source/The_Smashing_Pumpkins), [Tahiti 80](/source/Tahiti_80), [the Trash Can Sinatras](/source/The_Trash_Can_Sinatras), and [Fountains of Wayne](/source/Fountains_of_Wayne).[1] He owned Stratosphere Sound recording studios with Adam Schelsinger and James Iha.[5][6]

Chase is married to Dominique Durand. They have two children: a daughter and a son.[7]
