**Andrew Dennis Wiedeman** (born August 22, 1989) is an American former professional [soccer](/source/Association_football) player, who played as a [forward](/source/Forward_(association_football)).

## Career

### College and amateur

Wiedeman played [college soccer](/source/College_soccer_in_the_United_States) at the [University of California](/source/University_of_California), where he earned numerous individual honors, including NSCAA Far West All-Region and All-Pac-10 first teams in 2009 and NSCAA third-team All-American, All-Pac-10 first-team selection, Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Season, NSCAA Far West All-Region first team and Pac-10 all-academic second-team selection in 2008. He left college early to enter the [2010 MLS SuperDraft](/source/2010_MLS_SuperDraft) as a [Generation Adidas](/source/Generation_Adidas) player.

During his college years Wiedeman also played with [San Jose Frogs](/source/San_Jose_Frogs) in the [USL Premier Development League](/source/USL_Premier_Development_League) during the 2008 season[1] and [NorCal Lamorinda United](/source/NorCal_Lamorinda_United_SC) in the [National Premier Soccer League](/source/National_Premier_Soccer_League) during the 2009 season. Wiedeman was also a four-year starter for the [California High School](/source/California_High_School_(San_Ramon%2C_California)) Fighting Grizzlies, earning all-East Bay Athletic League Honors his Junior year.[2] Wiedeman holds an Irish passport through descent.[3]

### Professional

Wiedeman was drafted in the second round (21st overall) of the [2010 MLS SuperDraft](/source/2010_MLS_SuperDraft) by [FC Dallas](/source/FC_Dallas).[4] He made his professional debut on April 28, 2010, in [US Open Cup](/source/US_Open_Cup) game against [D.C. United](/source/D.C._United).[5]

Wiedeman was traded to [Toronto FC](/source/Toronto_FC) in exchange for [Julian de Guzman](/source/Julian_de_Guzman) on July 13, 2012.[6][7]

In Toronto, he rejoined former [FC Dallas](/source/FC_Dallas) teammate and fellow Californian [Eric Avila](/source/Eric_Avila). He made his debut for the club a day later coming on as a substitute for [Danny Koevermans](/source/Danny_Koevermans), who exited with an injury, in the 41st minute. Toronto FC went on to win that game 1–0 against the [New England Revolution](/source/New_England_Revolution).[8]

He scored his first professional goal in only his second appearance for Toronto FC on July 18, 2012, coming on as a substitute for [Eric Avila](/source/Eric_Avila) in the 59th minute of a home game against the [Colorado Rapids](/source/Colorado_Rapids) and scoring the game-winning goal in the 67th minute of play, off a deflected shot from teammate [Luis Silva](/source/Luis_Silva_(Mexican_footballer)), to earn Toronto a 2–1 victory.[9][10]

Wiedeman was signed by [Ottawa Fury FC](/source/Ottawa_Fury_FC) of the [North American Soccer League](/source/North_American_Soccer_League_(2011%E2%80%932017)) on January 26, 2015. He would score his first and second goals for the club in a 4–1 win over [Indy Eleven](/source/Indy_Eleven) on August 8, 2015.[11]

On December 7, 2015, Wiedeman was announced as one of the first 11 signings for [USL](/source/United_Soccer_League) expansion club [FC Cincinnati](/source/FC_Cincinnati_(2016%E2%80%9318)).[12]

Following the end of the 2017 season at FC Cincinnati, Wiedeman retired from professional soccer to pursue a bachelor's degree at the [University of California, Berkeley](/source/University_of_California%2C_Berkeley).[13]

Wiedeman played in the inaugural edition of [The Soccer Tournament](/source/The_Soccer_Tournament). Wiedeman played for Nati SC, a team composed for [FC Cincinnati](/source/FC_Cincinnati) alumni.[14]
